As we make our way through our busy day to day schedules, our rooftops rarely come into our thoughts…. but luckily, our friends at GMHBA did stop to think about theirs and how it could be used to support their community. So that’s why they’ve built an awesome rooftop garden that grows beautiful fresh produce for their mates down the road at Christ Church. How cool is that?
Staff at GMHBA hq all pitch in to lovingly care for their garden beds and nurture their home grown veggies and plant food to picking stage, then deliver baskets full of nutritious delights to a very appreciative bunch at Christ Church in Geelong.
From there, the produce is turned into beautiful hot meals in the kitchens of Christ Church who open their doors to the people of Geelong that need a helping hand.
We followed the process from the rooftop to the kitchen right up to serving dinner to the grateful recipients and it was an awesome experience. Everyone involved gains something from this process, it’s an uplifting feeling being a part of it.
I really loved this story and the people I met along the way. Some great relationships have been built throughout this operation and an invaluable support network grown from a garden bed on a rooftop. Amazing!
