I must say I’m a big fan of cleansing/smudging/clearing my home. I only discovered it a couple of years ago when we moved into an 1890’s home and the TV kept turning on in the middle of the night.
I got the sense that their was a spirit or energy in the house that had to go. It didn’t feel like it was a negative energy but either way, it way playing funny buggers with us and I was sick of getting up to turn the TV off!
After I did the clearing, the shenanigans miraculously stopped occurring. Hence, I became a cleansing convert. I like to do it if there has been any toxicity in the house i.e. any major disruptions, toxic people, altercations etc. You really can feel the difference afterwards.
My only warning is that it may smell a little like ‘hoochie koochie’ so you may want to explain yourself to your neighbours as their is a lot of smoke.
Here is Feng Shui expert Kelly Ingram (aka The Feng Shui Girl), to tell you how to perform a clearing…
Does your home feel not quite right? The energy feels stifled and not flowing?
If this resonates with you, head to your local new age store and purchase two or three sage sticks. Sage is fantastic at clearing negative energy.
Stand at your front door and light your sage (make sure you have a bowl to catch the falling ash.) Then ask yourself which way should you clear your home – clockwise or anti clockwise? Listen to the first thing that pops into your mind and go with that – don’t doubt yourself. If you have a pendulum you can use this to give you your answer if you’d prefer. Make sure all windows and doors are shut before you start.
For example if your answer is clockwise, start at the front door and walk to the first room on your left hand side, then walk around the room in a clockwise direction letting the smoke fill the room. Concentrate on the corners of the room, under tables, under the bed, and don’t forget under the stairs. Spend extra time where the energy feels most stagnant to you. Fan the smoke around the room with your hand.
Your home will fill up with smoke so be mindful of where your smoke detectors are placed.
Once you have completed walking around the whole house, open the back door to remove the smoke when the time feels right. Sometimes a home really holds the smoke and other times it dissipates quickly. You’ll know when the time is right.
There is one very important thing that you must do to get the outcome you’d like and that is to say your declaration over and over whilst walking through the home. An example of a declaration is ‘I now banish all negative entities and energies from this home.’ Feel free to use this declaration or make up one the sits well with you.
It is always a good idea to sage your home when you first move in and at least once a year.
Please let me know if you have any questions and enjoy having a clean and clear home!
