Aussie Helpers is a wonderful organisation, our farmers are some of the hardest working people in our country and from time to time, they do it tough, really tough, and need a helping hand. This is where Brian and Nerida Egan step in and together with a group of generous volunteers they roll up their sleeves and share some of the load with those in need.
Whether it’s mending fences, providing food and clothing, sending mechanics to fix trucks and equipment or providing counselling services for anyone struggling with the stresses of life, Aussie Helpers will be there. They have helped so many of our farmers and their families get back on track.
And the story of Aussie Farmers is a story of hope in itself. Brian is a returned Veteran who was struck down with his own financial woes and a terrible battle with PTSD. Brian had reached the depths of despair and could not see a way out of his situation when finally the turning point came.
That’s when Brian made the decision to start helping anyone he could find that was worse off than him, and in doing that, his recovery began. From there Brian and his wife Nerida founded Aussie Helpers in 2001 and has never looked back to those dark days.
Brian and Nerida’s story is a wonderful example of overcoming mental illness and the power of paying it forward. If you missed our interview with Brian on Episode 11, head to 9Now to see his chat with Shura.
Congratulations Brian and Nerida on an amazing service that Australians can be very proud of. To find out more about how you can contribute to Aussie Helpers, head to https://aussiehelpers.org.au
