Tim McCallum’s story is an extraordinary tale of beating the odds and proving the experts wrong. At the age of 18, Tim moved from his home town in Geelong to Perth to pursue a career in music and theatre – Tim has long been an extremely talented singer and performer. It was there in Perth the Tim’s life was changed forever when Tim took a dive into the ocean not knowing a sand bar lay beneath the water. The result being that Tim broke his neck and became a quadriplegic – a fate that doctors told him would prevent him from ever singing again.
Fast forward 25 years and wow, has Tim proved those specialists wrong! Tim’s determination and devotion to his craft saw him develop his own technique for singing that overrode his physical challenges and if you’ve ever heard this man sing, it’s hard to believe that he has anything holding him back at all. Tim is an amazing talent and the world is a better place for having his voice in it!
While Tim’s inspirational attitude and outlook on life has taken him on an amazing journey of success, happiness and fulfilment, there’s another special someone in his life who helps with the day to day challenges that present themselves. Her name is Roxy, a beautiful four-legged blonde who provides Tim with help for the little things his body doesn’t allow him to do on his own.
Roxy and Tim are a ambassadors for Assistance Dogs Australia and represent the amazing difference an assistance dog can make in someone’s life. And it’s not just the practical help that Roxy provides Tim, they have a beautiful emotional bond that brings joy to both of their lives.
