Do you have trouble sleeping?
Is anxiety keeping you wired?
Do you suffer from PTSD?
Do you have a child with ADHD, autism or sensory processing disorder?
Have you heard of a therapy (or weighted) blanket?
They claim to be good for all of the above by using “deep touch pressure” stimulation, which is said to improve mood and relaxation by naturally promoting the release of endorphins – the body’s happy hormones, while also decreasing stress and anxiety.
Really? A blanket can do all this? I had to put it to the test.
So I ordered 2 for the family to try.
Opening the box my first impression was how gorgeous the colours are, how soft and snuggly the fabric is and even though I knew they’d be weighty, I was still surprised how heavy they are.
I jumped straight on the couch to test it out. The immediate feeling of what the weight does is obvious. You feel really snug and secure, almost like you’re getting a big hug. I gave myself permission to relax for 5 minutes and surprisingly drifted off for a siesta. It definitely has a magical quality that has to be experienced to be understood.
That night both of my children tried them out for bed. They absolutely loved the feel and definitely drifted off easier than normal. They decided they were their own to keep and are refusing to share.
My 10 year old nephew had a sleepover and my son begrudgingly let him try it out for the night. My nephew woke up wanting one for Christmas.
The actual blanket covers are super soft and easy to remove for cleaning and for hot summer nights. The inner blanket is made from a breathable premium cotton and is filled with high-density glass beads to add the weighted feel.
The blankets come in different weights and you are supposed to pick one around 10% of your body weight. Weights go from 2.3kg for toddlers up to 9kg for adults.
If you can get your hands on a friends to try it out I would suggest doing that as they area bit of an investment. It’s one thing for me to tell you how good they are, but once you feel it you understand.
Or if you’re keen to try one yourself, our Destination Happiness tribe has been offered a special discount. You can receive $125 off if you use the code “Happiness” at the checkout.
Let me know how you go if you try it out!
