Where are you on the happiness meter today from 0-10? Right now I would say I am a 9/10. We have a great life, my family are happy and well. We have good food on the table and we laugh a lot . I enjoy what I do and I love all the people I surround myself with.
What’s the lowest you’ve been on the happiness meter? Throughout my life I have dipped low on the happiness meter around the 1-2 level. In my late teens and again in my early 20’s.
I experienced bullying at school and also I went through some challenging situations in my transition to adulthood that left me living a really toxic lifestyle and thinking quite toxic thoughts.
It was not a nice place to be in that’s for sure.
How did you raise your happiness when you were at your lowest? Well I got to the point where I couldn’t stand myself any more. I decided that no one but I could change this story I was stuck in. A story that I wrote.
When you truly decide to honor yourself and take back all power that you feel that you have lost the universe shifts to accommodate the changes that you need to live your life on your terms again.
I truly believe that anyone can change their thoughts and when those thoughts change your life can change with it.
Happiest moment in your life? I should say the birth of my children, or the day I was married. But really the happiest day was a day that I met my husband to be in a hotel lobby in Brisbane on the sly.
We had a rather challenging and interesting start to our journey and many people were hurt in the process. We had spent less than 48 hours together but many hours on the phone.
I walked into the hotel and he was there in this tight blue long sleeved top. When I saw him look at me I just felt it in my gut. This was the man I was going to marry. I just knew it.
Realising this fact and knowing it deep in my soul even at 23 was the happiest moment of my life. Knowing that I had found my soul mate and we were going to start a life together in whatever way we could was the beginning of my true happiness.
Not everyone finds this person so I feel very lucky. Ten years later we have three beautiful kids, our relationship is great and we live a pretty special life.
It all started on that day which is why it is the happiest moment in my life.
What’s your secret to happiness? My secret to happiness is owning my story and living my truth. No one controls my life but me and this includes how I react to things that happen to me or around me. I can decide how it will affect me in the long term and this is how I became a happier person.
We are the authors of our story. I consciously decide who, what and where my energy goes and it has to feel good in my gut and that is it. I know that bad things can happen to good people, the test is how you deal with them that counts.
Be with those that lift you higher, make you laugh, push you to be better. Leave those things that drag you down, dampen you, pull you away from happiness.
Have you read or seen anything that has changed your life?
- Wayne Dyer and Tony Robbins are the two people that really had the most influence on my life. They are true thought changers and leaders in happiness.
- Debbie Ford as well was a key person in my transition to a whole person, someone that writes her own path and story and leaves the blah behind.
- The movie The Shift from Wayne Dyer is something that everyone should see.
Favourite quote? “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Seuss
What is your happy song? Bobby McFerrin – Don’t Worry Be Happy
Can you share a secret? I will never ever ever give up toblerone chocolate. Shhh..
