Favourite memory? In 1999 I spent a year driving around Australia on my own in my Ford Falcon Panelvan.
About 500km south of Darwin, there is an oasis of thermal springs in the desert called Mataranka which means “Meeting place”. And there I met several other solo travellers, each of us on a personal quest, and we all converged in the warm healing waters and swam and shared stories and drank and laughed, before going our separate ways again.
It was a joyous, magical, serendipitous time.
My happiness is… being still in nature.
Most inspiring person… I used to belong to a philosophy school and one of the senior women there simply glowed with wisdom and kindness and grace. She was so beautiful in the spirit sense, that I would feel nervous in her presence.
Even though I haven’t seen her for years, she’s still the woman I seek to emulate.
Hardest moment in life? My life thus far has been deeply blessed, so I actually don’t feel as though I’ve had any hard moments, but like all human beings, I’ve experienced deep sadness, mainly from the death of loved ones or the breakdown of romantic relationships. But I can honestly say that through these sufferings, I have always gained great insights. So even in my saddest times, I’ve still been blessed.
Favourite quote…“Unity in Diversity and Constancy in Change”
A song that moves me is… I don’t know much about classical music, but I remember the first time I heard Johann Sebastian Bach “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”. It moved me to tears and the words that came to mind were “I want to be as good as this music”.
My happy place is… climbing into bed (either home or away) after a long, active, productive day and getting horizontal and saying “Aaaaaah”.
My little secret… My inner world is far more interesting than my outer world
