Mental Health First Aid – Victorian Chamber of Commerce
In Australia, at any one time, as many as one in five people will be experiencing a mental health problem. The Victorian Chamber of Commerce has recognised that although we need to support those who are struggling, we also need to make sure that the four out of five of us that aren’t struggling are able to stay well. Mental Health first aid is a fantastic initiative for our community.
Happy Mind
Chris Mackey – Building Your Tribe
For this week’s Happy Mind segment, resident psychologist Chris Mackey speaks to us about the importance of ‘building your tribe’. When you find the people who you share interests and passions with, it’s important to cultivate those relationships as they can be a tonic for the mind, body and soul.
Happy Bodies
Saltair Day Spa
In our busy lives it’s important to take a bit of time out for ourselves to recharge the batteries. This week, Angie and some friends head off to Saltair Spa for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Sometimes, there’s so much focus on giving to those around us that we need a reminder that it really is a necessity to take care of ourselves and recharge weary batteries.
Wellbeing Tip
Dairy Alternatives
This week our resident naturopath Lyndsay Ingleton talks about possible alternatives to dairy. Many people find dairy hard to digest or problematic for their immune and skin health. It’s worth making sure that any dairy alternatives aren’t chocked full of sugars or artificial substitutes. Unsweetened varieties of almond milk, coconut milk and coconut yoghurt are often great dairy alternatives.
Happy Eating
Dr Joanna McMillan – Tropical Fruit Smoothie
As Spring is finally upon us, Dr Joanna McMillan brings us a tantalisingly refreshing tropical smoothie, perfect as a weekend treat for the kids and a great way to use those mankey bananas in the fruit bowl. See our website for the recipe after you’ve seen the show.
Happy People
One of our regulars on the show, Cynthia Morton, talks about her rocky road to Emotional Fitness. Having lived through horrendous abuse, alcoholism and drug addiction, Cynthia hit rock bottom, which forced her to make a complete turn around. Now she dedicates her life to helping others through her program called Emotional Fitness.
