Hi Everyone!
Anyone else have a PHOBIA?
Well, Episode 4 has me facing one of mine – driving down the Great Ocean Rd. I’ve happily avoided it for about 10 years, after I realised driving on it brought on panic attacks for me.
Thankfully, psychologist Chris Mackey was there to coach me through the experience. I was really surprised just how emotional the experience made me. If anyone has suffered from panic attacks or has a phobia you’ll relate well and if you haven’t, then you’ll possibly just think I’m an irrational lunatic. Ha ha!!
Love to hear from you if you’ve been through something similar.
I also get to speak to author of ‘Living With It’ Bev Aisbett. She is a hero to me, as it was her book on anxiety that first helped me make sense of what was happening to me.
Hope you enjoy Episode 4!

Angie tackles the Great Ocean Road
On this week’s show, Angie puts her money where her mouth is and takes on a challenge that’s caused her much anxiety in the past, driving along the Great Ocean Road. With resident psychologist Chris Mackey by her side for support, Angie breaks down her own barriers and goes outside of her comfort zone to show us how she was able to get past what had been holding her back before.
Happy Mind
Chris Mackey – Anxiety
For this week’s Happy Mind segment, resident psychologist Chris Mackey speaks to us about anxiety. Feelings of anxiety can be nature’s way of protecting us from situations that threaten our survival, but often these feelings can be triggered by threats that do not pose a risk to us at all.
Happy Pets
Assistance Dogs
This week, Angie heads out to meet some assistance dogs and to find out about how these canine companions help people who are blind. We also met Adam and his assistance dog Usher who have been a team for 7 years. Adam tells us how he and Usher have been able to work together towards Adam’s educational, professional and fitness goals.
Wellbeing Tip
Happy Hormones
This week our resident naturopath Lyndsay Ingleton talks about the importance of having good hormone health. We shouldn’t totally avoid eating natural fats as they are a great for the health of our hormones. Some of these good fats can be found in foods such as oily fish, raw nuts and seeds and extra virgin olive oil.
Happy Bodies
Mole Mapping – Dr Richard Rahdon
We all like to enjoy a bit of fun in the sun, but with the Aussie rays being renowned for how harsh they can be, Angie heads off to Body Recon Cosmetic Clinic to speak to Dr Richard Rahdon about the risks surrounding skin cancer and the benefits of mole mapping for early detection of problem spots. Summer is fast approaching, tune in this week to make sure you’re doing all you can to stay safe from the sun this summer.
Word Vitamin
Cynthia Morton – Empathy
For this week’s word vitamin, Cynthia Morton talks to us about the importance of empathy. By displaying empathy, we’re able to put ourselves in other’s shoes and see things from their point of view. This helps to create meaningful relationships with those around us.
Happy People
Bev Aisbett’s books about depression, anxiety and related issues have been a source of support to many people going through tough times. After her own experiences of anxiety in the early 1990’s, Bev came up with the idea of creating a character to represent her anxiety so that it wasn’t such a “big dark force.”
Bev talks with Angie about how she was able to limit her anxiety by containing it within the idea of a character that she could then interact and aim to make friends with.
Random Acts of Happiness
This week, thanks to Morris Finance, we deliver some much-appreciated Cotton On Kids clothing to Geelong Mums, an organisation that helps families in need. Last financial year, they helped over 2500 families and over 6000 kids by providing them with nappies, wipes, clothes and toiletries.
Happy Travels
Bringing history alive on the banks of the idyllic Tamar River is the unique characterful Peppers Silo Hotel. Dating back to the 1960’s, the heritage building which spanned 35 metres high containing grain in four large silos, is an iconic landmark converted into a sophisticated 9 storey hotel providing a unique place to stay in Launceston.
Happy Eating
Dr Joanna McMillan
This week, courtesy of Cobram Estate, Dr Joanna McMillan brings us a scrumptious salad of spinach, peas, fennel and fetta. Perfect to whip up quickly and serve with a Spring barbeque with friends and family. See our website for the detailed recipe after you’ve watched the show.
