When we heard about Andy and Zoe Cullen’s story, we just had to sit down and talk with them about Andy’s experience of overcoming a terrible struggle with PTSD following his service in Afghanistan, and Zoe’s fight to save him.
On Andy’s return to family life after a harrowing experience serving as a bomb disposal expert in the war, his psychological battles were just beginning. Suffering from PTSD and depression, Andy’s mental health sunk to the lowest of lows to the point that he had to admit to Zoe that he no longer wanted to be here.
The Cullen’s story is one of hope and inspiration for anyone suffering with mental health as their journey is detailed in their book, Resurrected. With four young children, it took a lot of love, determination and dedication to each other for Zoe and Andy to navigate their way through an extraordinarily difficult time in their lives.
Andy and Zoe now work with returned veterans, supporting them through the organisation Mates 4 Mates.
To meet this beautiful family was a privilege and to hear Andy’s story was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Both Andy and Zoe are amazing human beings and their strength and love for one another has seen them triumph over everything that has been put in their path. Their passion for helping others to do the same just goes to show that they are true heroes, whose story is one we can all learn from.
