James Colquhoun’s story and the origin of the Food Matters phenomenon is both interesting and heart felt. If was James’ love for his dad, Roy, who was suffering from chronic disease, depression and anxiety that propelled him into film making in an effort to get his dad’s attention. We love eating! Eating makes us happy, that’s for sure, especially when we’re tucking into a triple decker chocolate fudge brownie covered in a rich warm chocolate sauce and double cream, scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream, with a side of berries drizzled in honey and….. oops sorry, got carried away there.
Yes, there’s a temporary type of happiness you can experience when you’re eating, but some of those joyful dishes, such as the above, are probably not the ideal daily recipe for happiness. Your face would be smiling but your arteries might not be so gleeful.
If we’re talking about long term happiness, what you eat plays a huge part in your mental well being. To make positive progress in our lives we need energy, to have energy our bodies need to be functioning efficiently, and to function efficiently, we need to fuel ourselves well.
Unfortunately, there’s no USB connection in the human body (yet). Wouldn’t it be handy to just plug yourself in for a while and get back to it? Can’t be done. So we’re taking a look at the healthy and delicious options out there for optimum functionality of the digestive system.
The homework for you (no deadline) is to understand and be aware of your body in terms of what works for your tummy and what doesn’t – what might be considered a superfood for one person might be a gut crippler for the next. We’ll be on the look out for a variety of dietary options - healthy, easy, tasty, fast, slow, delicious, serotonin boosting, antioxidising… there are healthy options out there for every pallet and every intolerance.
Bite by mindful bite, we’re feeding the body with our soul in mind… and our tastebuds too!
